LAFRANCOL S.A. was founded in 1911 to address the growing population in Colombia and their need for safer and more effective methods to deal with increasing disease and sickness. The company started as an importer of medicines from Europe, representing such multinational companies such as Belgium Chemical Union (UCB), Hoffman La Roche, Carlo Erba Spa and Laboratorios Debat.
With the intervention of the Second World War, importing pharmaceutical products from Europe became increasingly difficult and it was necessary to establish our own manufacturing facilities in the 1940’s. Thus LAFRANCOL established the first pharmaceutical plant in the country, which became the foundation for what is today one of the most modern industrial complexes in Latin America.
Along with the ability to provide a consistent product supply, indigenous manufacturing meant that doctors and patients could now obtain the same high quality therapies as European and U.S. offerings without the high costs implicit with imported products.
As LAFRANCOL’s reputation for quality and efficacy of product grew in the healthcare industry, so to did the company’s sales, personnel and reach. Today LAFRANCOL is positioned as the leader in the national pharmaceutical industry. It is currently recognized as the leading national pharmaceutical company for branded products in Colombia (IMS).
Going forward, LAFRANCOL is committed to offering the medical community the most advanced products and API's through the advanced manufacturing technology to meet the needs of doctors, patients and consumers.
